Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
- 0.25 tsp ground cloves
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 0.75 cup brown sugar
- 0.5 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round or square baking pan with butter or oil, and optionally line the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, oil, egg, and vanilla until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has begun to dissolve.
- Fold in the unsweetened applesauce until the batter is fully incorporated, glossy, and uniform.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Gradually pour the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Use a spatula to fold them in gently until no streaks of flour remain, avoiding overmixing.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
