Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into uniform 1 inch cubes. Note: Uniform size ensures they all soften at once.
  2. Place the cubes into a large heavy bottomed saucepan and toss with lemon juice.
  3. Add the water, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt to the saucepan.
  4. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid.
  5. Cook over medium low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Check the fruit until the apples are tender and slide apart when pressed with a fork.
  7. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the maple syrup.
  8. For a rustic texture, use a potato masher to break down the fruit.
  9. For a silky finish, use an immersion blender or food processor until smooth.
  10. Let the Cinnamon Applesauce cool for 10 minutes before serving or storing.
