Ingredients:
- 3 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into uniform 1 inch cubes. Note: Uniform size ensures they all soften at once.
- Place the cubes into a large heavy bottomed saucepan and toss with lemon juice.
- Add the water, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt to the saucepan.
- Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid.
- Cook over medium low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Check the fruit until the apples are tender and slide apart when pressed with a fork.
- Remove the pan from heat and stir in the maple syrup.
- For a rustic texture, use a potato masher to break down the fruit.
- For a silky finish, use an immersion blender or food processor until smooth.
- Let the Cinnamon Applesauce cool for 10 minutes before serving or storing.
