Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs firm apples, cored and chopped into 1-inch chunks
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly, leaving the skins on. Core the apples and chop them into uniform 1-inch cubes.
  2. Place the chopped apples, water, lemon juice, and salt into a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce to low.
  3. Cover with a lid and simmer for 15–20 minutes until the apples are translucent and fall apart easily when pressed with a fork.
  4. Stir in the ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg.
  5. For chunky style, use a potato masher to break down the fruit. For velvety style, use an immersion blender for 30 seconds until smooth.
