Ingredients:

  • 12 Jolly Rancher candies
  • 60 ml vodka
  • 15 ml fresh lime juice
  • 90 ml lemon-lime soda
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions:

  1. Place your 12 Jolly Rancher candies into a heavy duty zip top bag. Use the flat side of a rolling pin to firmly whack the candies until they are reduced to small shards and dust. Note: The smaller the pieces, the faster they will dissolve into the vodka.
  2. Pour 60 ml of vodka into your cocktail shaker and add the candy dust. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until the liquid is vibrantly colored and mostly clear. You’ll hear the candies rattling at first, then the sound will soften as they melt away.
  3. Add the 15 ml of fresh lime juice to the shaker. This is where the magic happens and the 'candy' taste turns into a 'cocktail' taste.
  4. Fill the shaker with about half of the 1 cup of ice. Shake again for 15 seconds until the shaker feels frost bitten and cold to the touch. This chills the infusion without diluting it too much before the soda hits.
  5. Strain the candy vodka mixture into a highball glass filled with the remaining fresh ice. Watch for a velvety, jewel toned pour that looks almost like liquid neon.
  6. Slowly top the glass with 90 ml of lemon lime soda. Do this gently until the bubbles reach the rim and the colors swirl together.
  7. Give it a very gentle stir with a bar spoon. Don't overdo it, or you'll lose all that lovely carbonation you just added.
  8. Garnish with a lime wheel or even an extra whole Jolly Rancher dropped in for visual flair. Serve immediately while the carbonation is still snapping and popping.
