Ingredients:
- 3 cups (375g) All-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp (12g) Baking powder
- 1 tsp (5g) Baking soda
- 1.5 tsp (9g) Fine sea salt
- 1 tbsp (12g) Granulated sugar
- 1.5 cups (360ml) Full-fat buttermilk
- 4 tbsp (56g) Unsalted butter, melted and divided
- 1 large (50g) Egg, room temperature
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large glass mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well aerated and combined.
- In a separate jug or bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, the room temperature egg, and 2 tablespoons of the melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Use a flexible silicone spatula to fold the mixture just until no dry flour streaks remain. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 7 inch round disc.
- Use a sharp knife to cut a deep X into the top of the dough, about 1/2 inch deep.
- Brush the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the top of the dough.
- Bake for 35 minutes until the crust is a deep mahogany color. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
