Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs sweet-tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into 1-inch chunks
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Peel the apples, remove the cores, and chop them into uniform 1-inch cubes. Place the chunks into the slow cooker crock.
  2. Drizzle water and lemon juice over the apples. Sprinkle the cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt evenly across the top, then stir in the maple syrup and coat the apples gently.
  3. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Cook on Low for 7–8 hours or High for 4–5 hours until apples are tender enough to be crushed effortlessly.
  4. For a rustic style, mash the apples directly in the crock with a potato masher. For a smooth consistency, use an immersion blender.
